'Yo vengo de una oscura provincia, de un país separado de todos los otros por la tajante geografía. Fui el más abandonado de los poetas y mi poesía fue regional, dolorosa y lluviosa. Pero tuve siempre confianza en el hombre. No perdí jamás la esperanza. Por eso tal vez he llegado hasta aquí con mi poesía, y también con mi bandera.' / 'I come from a dark province, from a country separated from all the others by the sharp geography. I was the most abandoned of the poets and my poetry was regional, painful and rainy. But I always had confidence in man. I never lost hope. That is why perhaps I have come here with my poetry, and also with my flag. '
